Sexiest woman alive Laura Shields tipped as future James Bond girl

16-Jan-2005 • Bond News

English model Laura Shields has been voted the sexiest woman alive in an internet poll organised by the beauty competition website globalbeauties.com.

The 22-year-old chemical engineering graduate, a St Thomas More and Cardinal Langley High School pupil, earned her place among the 20 finalists by reaching the semi-finals of the Miss International beauty pageant in China and Japan in October.

She faced strong opposition from Australian Jennifer Hawkins, current holder of the Miss Universe title, but still managed to gain 23 per cent of the votes.

In congratulating Laura, now of Westbrook Close, Castleton, on her victory the site tipped her to be a future James Bond girl.

She said: "I was really surprised to have been nominated, but it’s a great compliment to have come out top in the poll. My friends were all very pleased for me and my mother was very amused by it as well.

"I will be interested to see what comes of this, although I’m not sure about becoming a Bond girl. I hope by saying that the organisers haven’t put a hoodoo on me and blown my chances."

Winning the poll has capped an eventful year for Laura, who represented Great Britain in the Queen of the World competition in Germany in May and reached the final of Miss England in July.

Last month she was in the Bahamas, where she was selected to be Miss April in a calendar competition organised by American Dream Entertainment.

This led to her doing a photoshoot with a top New York magazine which is due to be published shortly.

Back home she has been modelling for shoe company Scholl, as well as appearing in the Robyn Brooks Appeal calendar.

Laura, whose IQ of 140 places her in the top one per cent in the country, said: "I’m quite enjoying being at home at the moment, so we will wait and see what happens."
