Is Sir Sean Connery really a Celtic supporter?

21-Jan-2005 • Actor News

The Scotsman claims to have finally solved the mystery raised earlier this week over which team Sir Sean Connery really supports.

It’s not Hibs, Hearts or even Rangers. It’s Celtic, as their man in New Jersey can confirm. The original James Bond was among a group of expats who gathered early one Sunday morning at the Scots Club in Kearny, New Jersey, to watch live coverage of the crucial final fixture of the 2002-2003 season. Readers may recall that Rangers took on Dunfermline while Celtic played Kilmarnock.

Apart from his stature and famous face, the shilver-tongued film-shtar stood out from the crowd as he was the only one present wearing a green scarf. Sir Sean had chosen, naturally, to go to the Scots Club in Kearny, which is famous as the nub of Scots football fans in the north-east.

Although Celtic fans frequent the Scots Club, it is home to the Rangers supporters’ club, while the Kearny Celtic fans’ base is in the Irish Club.

The atmosphere was raucous, but nonetheless remained convivial. Alas, the day did not end well for big Tam - Rangers took the title.

Thanks to `Bobby` for the alert.
