Aston Martin DB9 voted car of the year

11-Feb-2005 • Bond News

Its official - British cars have motored their way to the top of the popularity poll this year. 35% of Britons have voted the Aston Martin DB9 as MSN UK’s Car of the Year for 2005, placing it in the driving seat as Britons most craved car - reports CarPages.

The online poll run on MSN.co.uk, the UK’s number one website saw the DB9 take poll position with 4645 votes, a staggering 3,000 votes ahead of the new Ferrari F430, which came in second place. In third place was the new Volkswagen Golf with 667 votes.

The small hatchback and saloon Kia Cerato was the least popular car of 2004, driving only six voters to choose it. Other cars not getting out of first gear included the Daewoo Lacetti with 13 votes and Seat Toledo with 14 votes.

The Aston Martin, the flagship car for cult James Bond films ‘Goldfinger’ and ‘On Her Majesty’s Secret Service,’ has long been a national treasure and the new DB9 looks to be no exception. With an acceleration of 62mph in just 4.9 seconds and a streamlined sexy shape, the new DB9 is already getting hearts racing including car critics on BBC’s Top Gear.

Tom Evans, Editor of MSN Cars UK commented "We had our suspicions that the DB9 would do very well since it has been favourably featured in the press, but we were amazed that it took such a huge share of the vote. There was a credible performance from the Ferrari too, and it was good to see the more mainstream Volkswagen Golf also fair well. It will be interesting to see how the new Ford Focus - which didn’t qualify this year - does in next year’s poll."

Aston Martin will be supplying 007's car in the next James Bond film "Casino Royale" in 2006.
