Teenage MI6 agent movie deal done - but it`s not Young Bond
Despite the predictable
flurry of movie deal talk around the new Young Bond books by Charlie Higson (the first novel
"SilverFin" is out now in the UK and USA), talk of a film version was quickly put to bed by the publishers who claim to want to series to grow before making the leap to the silver screen.
But a teenage MI6 agent is about to make the transistion. Anthony Horowitz, who was first approached but turned down the opportunity to write the young James Bond books, has signed a deal to bring Alex Rider to the big screen.
Harvey Weinstein arrived Wednesday at Cannes -- where he plans to represent projects that will be released by Disney's Miramax Films and his and Bob Weinstein's new venture -- the fledgling Weinstein Co. secured North American rights to the new project "Stormbreaker."
"Stormbreaker" will introduce to the screen the 14-year-old special agent Alex Rider, hero of Anthony Horowitz's series of novels about a reluctant teenage superspy. The $40 million-budgeted movie, which is in preproduction, also has been presold to Entertainment Film Distribution for the U.K - according to the
Hollywood Reporter.
