They took part in a colourful opening parade, which involved circus entertainers, the Custom House-based Ascension Eagles cheerleaders and dhol drummers.
Highlights included flying displays, a funfair, a craft village, an animal village, sport and fitness displays and a Harry Potter fancy dress competition.
Newham Council helped to organise the day and money raised from the event was donated to the airportâs chosen charity, Becktonâs Richard House childrenâs hospice. Colin Salmon, star of recent James Bond films as MI6 aide Charles Robinson, is a patron of the charity.
The councilâs events trailer was on hand to explain what hosting the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games will mean for Newham.
Sir Robin said: "London City Airport and managing director Richard Gooding have again treated us to a special show and hopefully raised a lot for charity. We are delighted to have been part of it. It was great to see so many people enjoying themselves."
