007`s Lotus Esprit submarine voted most memorable movie car

20-Aug-2005 • Bond News

James Bond's Lotus Esprit from The Spy Who Loved Me has been voted the most memorable car in movie history.
The 1977 film saw Roger Moore drive the car off a pier into the sea, when it turned into a submarine.

Back to the Future's DeLorean came second in the poll of 5,000 members of online film rental service Lovefilm - reports BBC.

Starsky and Hutch's Ford Torino was third, followed by the VW Beetle from Herbie: The Love Bug. Batman's Batmobile finished in fifth place.

Cars from Bullitt, The Blues Brothers, Grease, Ghostbusters and Thelma & Louise were also in the top 10.

Lovefilm's marketing manager Fliss White said: "It's always the actors that take the glory for a great movie, so we felt it was about time the cars were recognised for their roles too."
