Pierce Brosnan receives golfing lesson from Bill Clinton

07-Jan-2006 • Actor News

Pierce Brosnan had an unexpected Christmas treat when former US President Bill Clinton offered to help him improve his golf game - reports Ireland Online.

The former James Bond was thrilled when he discovered Clinton and his family were holidaying in the rented villa next to his Hawaiian getaway, and invited the ex-leader to join him for cocktails.

Instead, Clinton suggested they hit the golf course together for a morning round the actor will never forget - even though he was terrified and terrible.

He explains: "I don't really play golf that well or that often so we played golf and I thought (we'd) maybe start around 11 o'clock in the morning, but 6.30 in the morning we started playing golf.

"It's terrifying… and you have about 26 secret servicemen standing around looking at you. We went out there and we were practising and he wanted to give me a few tips; he tried to hold my hips at some point… because my swing was off.

"The President likes to give golf lessons, apparently. I didn't know this. He said: 'You're doing it all wrong, Pierce… now let me just hold on your hips here.'

"I said: 'This is not gonna look too good in a photograph, Mr President.'

"I don't shoot well any day. I play nine holes and I'm done after three, really… It was what it was and he was very gracious… I was most honoured, it was most memorable."
