Former Avengers and James Bond star Honor Blackman helped launch the 2006 Freedom Pass this week.
She was joined by the Association of London Governmentâs Vice Chair, Councillor Tony Newman, to promote the scheme, which is the most comprehensive free travel service in the country and is funded by Londonâs boroughs.
More than a million older and disabled Londoners currently take advantage of the Freedom Pass which helps them to live as independently as possible.
Councillor Newman said: âThe Freedom Pass is about much more than just helping Londonâs older and disabled people get around London.
âIt is brilliant example of London boroughs working together to help give members of their community the freedom to live as independently as possible.
âI am delighted that thanks to the generosity of Londonâs boroughs we have been able to continue this scheme into its 22nd year.â
Honor Blackman, who holds a Freedom Pass, said: âThe Freedom Pass can have a significant effect on changing peopleâs lives for the better.
âIt is a wonderful scheme that not only allows people to travel across the capital free of charge, but it also reduces their dependence on others to get them out of their homes.â
The Pass allows disabled people 24-hour free access to Londonâs tube, bus and tram services and on national rail services in the capital after 9.30am.
Londoners aged 60 or over can travel free on the tube, bus and tram services after 9am and on national rail services in London from 9.30am.
At the weekends there are no time restrictions on either pass.
