Pierce Brosnan feared kidnapping whilst filming in Mexico

14-Feb-2006 • Actor News

Pierce Brosnan has revealed he may have been the target of a kidnap plot while filming his latest movie in Mexico - reports Virgin Movie News.

The former James Bond had to employ heavy security for himself and his family while filming 'The Matador' in Mexico City because he had been earmarked as a major ransom target.

Mexico City is the kidnap capital of the world and Brosnan believes criminals tampered with his car as part of an unsuccessful plan to kidnap him.

He said: "We had great security with us all the time and travelled in armoured vehicles.

"But I was worried for my family and they were worried for me. I do remember a week before we left there was a big article in the LA Times which talked about all the kidnapping.

"I tried to hide it from my wife, under the sofa. But she found it."

He added: "There was a real concern for one's welfare. I had to change cars three times because we had these unexplained blow-outs.

"What happens is they puncture the tyres right near the valve and of course you have to pull over and that's when these kidnappers can pounce, but apart from that we were OK."
