Pierce Brosnan happy about cuts made to `The Matador`

24-Feb-2006 • Actor News

Former James Bond star Pierce Brosnan remains convinced the bisexual scenes in his new movie The Matador should stay cut - despite the outstanding success of gay cowboy romance Brokeback Mountain - reports the Irish Examiner.

Brosnan, who almost backed out of the role altogether after suffering a confidence crisis, and his wife Keely Shaye Smith were both concerned the original script contained too many overtly gay sexual scenes before the actor decided to make some changes.

He says: "I don't regret it, not at all - even with Brokeback's success.

"The original problem was the director (Richard Shepard) threw everything at it - including the kitchen sink.

"It was too much. It came on full tilt.

"I felt it took away from the ambiguity of his sexuality.

"I just got it toned down."
