Sir Sean Connery is teed off with California golf club membership fees
Sir Sean Connery is suing a country club for allegedly stiffing him on membership fees.
According to documents obtained by
canada.com, the former James Bond and avid golfer also claims the Sherwood Country Club in California profited from the use of his name.
Scottish-born Connery, currently in Bahamas recovering from surgery to remove a kidney tumor, is seeking more than $1 million (all figures U.S.).
In his lawsuit, filed March 13th in Los Angeles Superior Court, Connery says he paid $35,000 to join the club in 1990 and was told â80% of the going rate is retrievable after three years.â
Connery canceled his membership in 2004 and asked Sherwood âto honor the contract and to remit ⦠80% of the going rate of membership,â which he claims is more than $500,000.
The 75-year-old actor claims the county club has refused to pay.
Connery is also seeking at least $500,000 in compensation for the clubâs alleged use of his name in attracting new members. Sherwood has âbeen greatly enriched by using (Conneryâs) name and image,â according to his statement of claim.
He alleges that the country club also used his name to entice potential buyers of expensive homes it developed.
Conneryâs lawyer, Louis R. Miller, has requested a trial by jury.
