Pierce Brosnan celebrates his 53rd birthday today

16-May-2006 • Actor News

Four times James Bond actor, Pierce Brosnan celebrated his 53rd birthday today. The Irish actor was born in Navan, County Meath, 1953.

Brosnan did not enter his role as James Bond as instantaneously as Sean Connery or George Lazenby, but it was more a case of fate or one bizarre audition. He remembered back to when he saw his first Bond movie at the age of 10, Goldfinger, he said "When I was growing up in Ireland, we had no Cinema or TV. I went to London with my parents and they took me to see a movie. I remember seeing a naked lady covered in gold paint, and a man who killed with his hat".

He had starred in many movie roles until a break in his acting career, his wife Cassandra was dying of cancer, He spent the rest of his wife's time looking after their children, sadly in 1991, Brosnan's wife died. In the early nineties, he starred in several films including "The Lawnmower Man" and "Mrs. Doubtfire". During the production of another film in New Guinea Brosnan received a telephone call from Albert Broccoli who offered him the part as James Bond, he took the offer. Due to legal problems with film production, Goldeneye was not released until six years after Licence to Kill. Goldeneye was the highest grossing Bond film ever, and it spawned two MTV generation films: "Tomorrow Never Dies" and "The World Is Not Enough", although the latter put more focus on character rather than TND's almost non-stop action. "Die Another Day" smashed records again for the "billion dollar Bond", and he stated that he wished to return for a fifth outing with the backing of the producers. But Brosnan's era as Bond came to an end in 2005 when he was replaced by Daniel Craig.

During his stint as 007, Brosnan lent his likeness to his videogame incarnation in "007: NightFire" and also his voice in "007: Everything or Nothing".
