Most fans believe a third Timothy Dalton film would have been good for the series
The majority of James Bond fans believe a third Timothy Dalton film in the early 1990's would have been beneficial to the 007 franchise, an exclusive mi6-hq.com poll has discovered.
Over half of voters, 59%, thought that a Dalton outing to follow-up his second film "Licence To Kill" would have been a positive move. The 1989 film suffered poorly at the US box-office due to strong competition and a lacklustre marketing campaign.
Due to a series of legal entanglements and a change of key production members, production on the 17th Bond film stalled. It was
five years before Dalton would eventually step down making way for Pierce Brosnan to become the fifth 007 in 1995's "GoldenEye".
On the other side of the argument, 30% disagreed - indicating that the 6 year hiatus and change of actor was positive in the long run, with Brosnan becoming the "billion dollar Bond" in the late 90's. 11% stayed on the fence.
