Pierce Brosnan launches protest against gas terminal off Californian coast
Former James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan has joined a host of Hollywood celebrities protesting plans to build a liquified natural gas terminal off the coast of Southern California.
The $800 million (£425 million) terminal is being proposed by Australian-based BHP Billiton, one of the world's largest energy companies.
The terminal would be located 14 miles (22 kilometres) off the coast of Malibu, causing concern to Southern California residents such as Brosnan.
Brosnan said, "As a father and a concerned citizen and a resident of Malibu for 20-odd years, we are protesting this. Please let's consider this and let's look at it very clearly before we make any harsh moves."
A letter on Brosnan's website has been signed by Hollywood celebrities such as Barbara Streisand, Cindy Crawford, Martin Sheen, Tom Hanks, Sting and Charlize Theron.
A decision is expected to be made next year.
