John Barry reveals his Goldfinger theme almost did not make the film

21-Sep-2006 • Bond News

Composer John Barry's legendary theme song for the 1964 James Bond movie Goldfinger almost didn't make the film, because a producer thought it "the worst f**king song I ever heard".

Film-maker Harry Saltzman was livid when Barry delivered the Shirley Bassey-sung classic to him - reports PR Inside.

And it was only down to time constraints that the song was left in.

Barry says, "I got a phone call from Harry. He never used to come down to recording sessions, and he says, 'John, that is the worst f**king song I ever heard in my life. We open in three weeks' time, otherwise I'd take that f**king song out of the picture. I'd take it out! Out!'"
