`You Only Live Twice` chair attracts £15,000 bid at UK antiques fair

17-Mar-2007 • Collecting

A film fan has offered the £15,000 asking price for the chair on to which James Bond fell during the film You Only Live Twice.

The tan leather and stainless steel 1960s chaise was on sale at the Kings Road Antiques Fair at Chelsea Old Town Hall - reports Metro.

Owner Paul Meyer said he received an offer of the asking price today but he did not consider the deal complete until he had been given the money.

In the 1967 film, Bond - played by Sean Connery - lands on the chair after he falls through a stainless steel chute into Tiger Tanaka's office.

Mr Meyer, of Beechridge Antiques, in Poole, Dorset, said the buyer was very knowledgeable about the film and even told him Connery hurt his back when he landed on the chair.

The chair was bought from United Artists by one of its employees in the 1970s and was sold to Mr Meyer a few months ago.

He said: "It's in very good condition. There are a few scuffs and I think, for the scene, they bolted it to the floor to stop it moving.

"Bond falls down a chute and lands straight on the chaise with a bang, then sits up and crosses his legs and says hello."

Mr Meyer added: "It's a unique item."

The antiques fair runs until Sunday.
