Daniel Craig signs up for lead role in `Defiance` WWII true story

17-May-2007 • Actor News

Daniel Craig, who starred as the new James Bond in 2006's Casino Royale, has signed up to play the lead in a true story about the Polish Resistance during the Second World War - reports The Telegraph.

Defiance, directed by Edward Zwick, whose recent credits include Blood Diamond starring Leonardo DiCaprio, centres on four brothers in Nazi-occupied Poland.

The group fled into the forests of Belarus with a party of Jewish people and joined Russian resistance fighters.

Filming is due to begin in September, possibly in eastern Europe and Canada, with an expected release date at the end of next year.

Craig can next be seen opposite Nicole Kidman in the alien epidemic movie Invasion later this year (filmed before he was cast as 007). He’s also in the Golden Compass movie coming out this fall, he’s working on a movie with Ewan McGregor called I, Lucifer where he plays Satan, he’s scheduled to star in Blindness where he’ll be the only person who can see in a town full if sightless people, and then there’s a little something called Bond 22 still to come in November 2008.
