Bond villainess Grace Jones creates a stir during Wimbledon week

09-Jul-2007 • Actor News

Grace Jones (who played villainess Mayday in the 1985 James Bond film "A View To A Kill") has been a regular fixture all week, sitting just in front of the press box so as to be seen by the world's hacks but while not making herself available for interview. It's an art form. She is also nursing a broken arm, an injury sustained when a particularly frenetic tango got out of hand. Draped over her good arm is a Serbian photographer (Serbs are in this year at Wimbledon), the same snapper who was leading the tango when Jones went elbow over what-not. Obviously she did not take it personally.

But unlike Pierce Brosnan's lucky charms at the women's semi-finals, the 007 effect does not always work at Wimbledon. A day after the Centre Court presence of Brosnan inspired Marion Bartoli to her epic semi-final victory over Justine Henin, Bond villain Grace Jones tried to intervene when nine-time champion Martina Navratilova was being barred from entering the locker room. Jones gave it the predictable 'don't you know who she is' line to the steward, but Navratilova made it clear that she did not require any help from muscle girl and tennis fan Jones.
