Pierce Brosnan and Matt Damon and discuss Bourne and Bond

27-Jul-2007 • Bond News

Matt Damon and the publicity department behind the third movie in the Bourne franchise seem to be using James Bond's name a lot in recent press - no doubt in an attempt to stoke up some interest in an otherwise flagging marketing campaign. Universal are pinning their hopes on "The Bourne Ultimatum" after their last blockbuster "Evan Almighty" almost sank without trace. The latest Bourne PR offensive includes a supposed conversation between Damon and former James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan...

Media Report
Matt Damon's amnesiac assassin Jason Bourne shares initials with another notorious screen operative. But Damon doesn't see any other similarities between Bourne and James Bond. Bond is "an imperialist and he's a misogynist - reports IHT. He kills people and laughs and sips martinis and wisecracks about it," said Damon, 36. The actor's new film, "The Bourne Ultimatum," opens worldwide in August and September. Bourne is "a serial monogamist who's in love with his dead girlfriend and can't stop thinking about her," Damon said.

Damon said he bumped into the former Bond star Pierce Brosnan in London and they chatted briefly about the effort to update the character with "Casino Royale," which introduced Daniel Craig as Bond. Brosnan told him the style of Bond can be updated "but fundamentally, what the character is is something from the 1960s," Damon said.
