Goldfinger has the midas touch at UK cinemas, impressive returns on big screen rerelease
Goldfinger was back on the big screen in cinemas across the UK on Tuesday 31st July 2007 thanks to the transition to digital projection technology.
Sean Connery's classic outing as James Bond was re-distributed in 133 multiplexes and commercial venues in the UK - and packed in fans as venues sold out, some having to turn customers away.
Goldfinger pulled in an impressive $77,648 from its single-showing venues last Tuesday, averaging $583 per screening. Despite only showing once at each loaction, the film ranked #12 at the UK box-office for the entire week of July 27th to August 2nd, out-performing Hollywood blockbusters Ocean's Thirteen and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.
What made the figures even more impressive is that the re-release was held on a Tuesday - typically the quietest day of the week for cinemas who usually rely on cut-price tickets and two-for-one deals in order to justify opening their doors.
Lee Pfeiffer, author of the best-selling title The Essential Bond and editor of Cinema Retro, told MI6, "This is excellent news for younger fans. There is no substitute to seeing a film on the big screen with an appreciative audience."
Distribution company Park Circus proved yet again "nobody does it better". The re-release of Goldfinger formed part of the Summer of British Film.
