Goldfinger screening with Shirley Eaton in Glasgow, 9th September

A day devoted to film is to be staged in Glasgow next month, with the opportunity to watch films, talk about them and even make them - in the company of actors such as Sir Ben Kingsley and directors including Gillies MacKinnon - reports AMS.

Like a music festival, Glasgow Green is to be turned into a stage and tented, but with film as its focus. The free event is being organised by the BBC.

The day includes the BBC Big Band performing movie soundtracks, face-to-face interviews being conducted by the Corporationâs Alan Yentob and Kirsty Wark, and a screening of the James Bond classic, Goldfinger.

As well as Kingsley (Sexy Beast, Ghandi, Elegy) and MacKinnon (Hideous Kinky, Tara Road), also appearing are Ewen Bremner (Trainspotting, Hallam Foe) and Atta Yaqub (Nina's Heavenly Delights). Plus actress, Shirley Eaton - best known for her role as Jill Masterson, the
gold-painted lady in Goldfinger.

This is the first ever BBC Film Festival, and itâs taking place on Sunday, September 9.

Says Yentob, the BBC's Creative Director: "The festival is a fantastic opportunity to highlight the BBC's commitment to film and to celebrate the pivotal role we can play at every stage of origination, production, promotion and broadcast. I'm delighted Glasgow was chosen as the host city for the event, especially given the Glaswegian reputation for being voracious cinema-goers. I hope the festival will be seen as an opportunity not just to watch great films for free, but to find out more about how films are produced and even how to make a film of your own."
