Sir Sean Connery is named worlds sexiest senior in over-60s poll

04-Oct-2007 • Actor News

Sean Connery has been named the film world's sexiest senior in a poll which saw him beating his Indiana Jones screen son, Harrison Ford - reports the DailyMail.

At 77 it is a mantle he wears well wear – not surprisingly, since he has been in training for years.

Starting with his smouldering Scottish accent, which he displayed in his first James Bond movie, when he called M's secretary Mish Moneypenny, he has made women swoon ever since.

He showed maturity had its moments playing an aging Robin Hood in Robin and Marion in 1976, when he was only 46, seven years before his final Bond outing.

But it was when he approached 60 that the sex accolades started mounting. People magazine named him the Sexiest Man Alive in 1989, the year he first played Indy's dad.

In 1995 Empire called him one of the 100 sexiest men in film history, and in 1999 People gave him a new title, Sexiest man of the Century.

So it is small wonder he beat Robert De Niro, 64, into second place in the poll, organised by Movies.com.

Double Oscar-winner De Niro, regarded as one of the greatest actors of his time, creates his sex appeal almost despite himself, playing flawed but charismatic characters – seriously in The Godfather: Part II and Taxi Driver and with a comic take on his screen reputation in Analyse This and Meet the Parents.

Harrison Ford, 65, in third place, has more obvious credentials, ranking alongside Connery in the 1995 Empire list and ranking as People's Sexiest Man Alive in 1998.

And being a doting stepfather to the six-year-old adopted son of his much-younger girlfriend, 43-year-old Calista Flockhart, does not harm the image.

In fourth place is Jack Nicholson, 70, who has always had a bad-boy sexual edge, softened by his hot-tub scenes with Kathy Bates in 2002's About Schmidt – but sharpened again by his turn as a sexually voracious Irish mafiosi in this year's Best Picture winner, The Departed.

Rounding up the Movies.com top five is Al Pacino, 67, who has been described as "oozing a dark sexuality" in films such as Scarface and The Godfather.
