Daniel Craig to receive Variety Award at British Independent Film Awards
James Bond actor Daniel Craig is to receive the Variety Award at the tenth annual British Independent Film Awards. The honour is for bringing the British film industry into the international spotlight, reports

Elsewhere, âControlâ, a biopic about the doomed Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis, has received an outstanding 10 nominations.
The film's nominations include Best Film and Best Director for Anton Corbijn, while rising talent Sam Riley, who plays Curtis, is in the running for Best Actor and Most Promising Newcomer. His co-stars Samantha Morton and Toby Kebbell have been nominated for Best Supporting Actor / Actress.
Also competing for Best Film are âAnd When Did You Last See Your Fatherâ, which stars Colin Firth and Jim Broadbent, David Cronenbergâs âEastern Promisesâ, âHallam Foeâ, starring Jamie Bell, and âNotes on a Scandalâ, starring Cate Blanchett and Judi Dench.
Other multiple nominees include 'And When Did You Last See Your Father' (seven), 'Hallam Foe' (six), 'Eastern Promises' (five), 'Notes on a Scandal' (four) and 'Garbage Warrior' (three).
The awards were established in 1998 to celebrate and promote achievement in independently-funded British film.
Ray Winstone, who won Best Actor for his role in âNil By Mouthâ at the first BIFA, has been awarded The Richard Harris Award for Outstanding Contribution by an Actor.
The jury consists of filmmakers and stars of British film, including actress and comedienne Kathy Burke, Children of Men star Chiwetel Ejiofor and director Neil Marshall (âDog Soldiersâ, âThe Descentâ).
The awards ceremony will take place on Wednesday November 28 at the Roundhouse in London, and will be hosted by James Nesbitt.
