Sir Roger Moore leads attempt to ban foie gras in Norwich, UK

29-Oct-2007 • Actor News

Former James Bond star Sir Roger Moore is calling on an English city to ban the sale of foie gras. The screen star has joined forces with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and written a letter to Norwich City Council urging them to back a proposal refusing retailers the chance to sell the goose liver delicacy.

Councillors will discuss the appeal at a meeting on Tuesday. Animal campaigners have long protested the production of foie gras - geese are force fed as much as four pounds of grain and fat two to three times a day. The practice is banned in 15 countries and the U.S. city of Chicago.

Moore writes in his letter to Norwich Council, "With your help, I believe we will soon see an end to this violent and inherently cruel delicacy of despair."
