Engagement ring spotted on Daniel Craig`s girlfriend Satsuki Mitchell

27-Nov-2007 • Actor News

Could there be wedding bells for Daniel Craig? His girlfriend Satsuki Mitchell was spotted wearing a ring on her engagement finger at the world premiere of his new film The Golden Compass, reports the Daily Mail.

Looking as sharp as his James Bond alter ego in a smart black suit, white shirt and black tie, Craig was accompanied by Mitchell for the premiere in London's Leicester Square this evening.

Co-stars Nicole Kidman and Eva Green were also at the premiere tonight.

Craig plays Lord Asriel in the £90million movie which is based on Northern Lights, the first book in Philip Pullman's bestselling His Dark Materials trilogy.

The film has courted some controversy because of the book's anti-religious themes.

But speaking on the red carpet in London's Leicester Square this evening, Craig said the controversy had been 'blown out of proportion'.

He said: "It's been said in the US that anti-religious ideas in the film are too much while over here that it has been diluted from the book.

"It has been blown out of proportion. I've been a fan of the books since they were written. Philip Pullman is a genius.

"I love his writing and the sentiments, morals and storytelling in the book."

Newcomer Dakota Blue Richards, 13, who was plucked from 10,000 schoolgirls in open auditions to play heroine Lyra Belacqua, joined Craig on the red carpet for her first premiere.

Craig praised Richard's performance in the filming saying she is an 'amazing' actress.

He added: "I'm really proud of Dakota. She's done a great job."

The Golden Compass sees Lyra travel through an alternate universe of humans and their talking daemons (souls in animal form) as she attempts to rescue her kidnapped friend and fight the sinister Magisterium, which condones the surgical removal of children's souls.

If the film, released on December 5, is a success it will pave the way for adaptations of the other books in Pullman's trilogy - The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass.

Craig said: "I haven't signed up the the next two films yet but I hope we will be able to make the trilogy."
