Bond writer Tom Mankiewicz joins the WGA picket lines
The Writers Guild of America strike is now in its fifth week, with many television shows laying off staff after their commitment to support them for four weeks has expired - reports
ABC.
On Friday, a group of writers from movies and television series from the 1940s through 1960s picketed in the rain today outside Sony Studios in Culver City.
"I've never seen the guild with a more properly militant leadership," said Tom Mankiewicz, who wrote many of the early James Bond films. "If we do this right this time, we won't have to do it again."
Tom Mankiewicz co-wrote âThe Man With The Golden Gunâ, and âDiamonds Are Foreverâ with screenwriter Richard Maibaum. Mr. Mankiewiczâs other James Bond screenplay credit (sole credit) was on âLive and Let Dieâ.
Negotiations to attempt to end the strike are set to resume Tuesday.
The Writers Guild of America and Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, which represents the movie studios and television networks, negotiated four consecutive days through last Friday in the first set of talks since the strike began.
