Sir Sean Connery eyes luxury Airlie Beach pad in Australia

02-Feb-2008 • Actor News

Sir Sean Connery is close to enjoying his martinis, shaken not stirred, from the luxury of a plush Airlie Beach apartment while admiring the expansive waterfront views - reports the Daily Mercury.

The iconic actor, who has starred in scores of films, will join the growing list of international celebrities who come to play and stay at Airlie Beach and the Whitsundays.

The actor is looking at an exclusive apartment at Whisper Bay, a waterfront development close to Abel Point Marina, a spokeswoman for the complex said.

Whisper Bay, with its assortment of three-bedroom apartments, town houses, villas and penthouses, is turning into the leisure residence of the rich and famous.

If he buys the apartment Connery would be neighbours with former Australian Prime Minister Bob Hawke, who has bought in the complex, along with two sporting figures.

Each residence has waterfront views of the Whitsunday Islands, large living areas, a balcony, terrace and a private pool or water feature.

And you wouldn't be holidaying in Queensland without a barbecue - they are provided in all homes.

The Scotsman is believed to have been looking at the apartment recently.

Workers at the Abel Point Marina at Airlie Beach reported that the actor's boat had been moored there for some time.

Mr Connery is known to have holidayed at Airlie Beach and the Whitsundays in past years, slipping into the area incognito.

Currently, Sean Connery's permanent residence is in the Bahamas.

In 2003, he told journalists he would not return to his homeland of Scotland until it became independent from the United Kingdom.
