USA TV - `Mythbusters` wrap up the James Bond experiments

14-Feb-2008 • Media Alert

Show: MythBusters - James Bond Special (Part 2)
Channel: Discovery Channel (USA)
Date: Monday 18th February 2008
Time: 21:00 EST/PST

The Mythbusters dedicate this one-hour special to the ultimate action hero: James Bond. They put the gadgets and stunts to the test leaving them shaken, not stirred.

Thus far on "MythBusters," we've learned things both large and trivial. Bond's toys, for instance, need some truth serum. The exploding pen (from "Golden Eye") works, but not to the torso-ripping extent depicted in the movie — busted. So, too, are the metal teeth that the henchman Jaws used to chew through the cable-car wire in "Moonraker"; the sharp teeth replica on "MythBusters" didn't even put a dent in the cable (Richard Kiel was really chewing licorice in the scene). But Bond's speedboat jump and escape from "Live and Let Die" is plausible; Savage and Hyneman built a ramp on a lagoon, jumped the boat and saw that the hull remained intact.
