O.H.M.S.S. makes Men`s Vogue list of top movies that impacted style

25-Feb-2008 • Bond News

During the pre-Oscar build-up, Men's Vogue magazine selected movies that they viewed had the greatest impact on men's style.

The choice of the only James Bond film to make the list (at #23) may pleasantly surprise fans: On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969).

Sean Connery's tailor, Anthony Sinclair, had developed a simple suit for previous Bond films, dubbed the Conduit Cut (after the tailor's shop on Conduit Street in London). Lazenby, an Australian car salesman turned model, lost weight in order to fit into Connery's unclaimed Conduit suit from Dr. No, which he bought from Sinclair, but director Peter Hunt had already decided to evolve the Bond look. In scenes that took place outside London, Lazenby wore more casual outfits composed of sport jackets, blazers, and windcheater jackets in various colors or prints and usually paired with a T-shirt or turtleneck. On Her Majesty's Secret Service showed the world that anyone could dress like 007, even without the license to kill.
