Shirley Bassey forced to cancel performance at Mendela concert

25-Jun-2008 • Bond News

James Bond songstress Shirley Bassey has canceled her appearance at Nelson Mandela's birthday concert in London citing recuperation from her emergency stomach operation.

The 71-year-old Welsh singer had to pull out of the event after her doctors advised her against traveling. She underwent operation in May and she expected to recuperate just in time for the event.

Her spokesman Paul Carey said, "On the advice of her surgeon, Dame Shirley Bassey will now not be able to perform as scheduled at the Nelson Mandela 46664 concert."

"The Dame is hugely disappointed and was looking forward to the show immensely."

The former President of South Africa will be celebrating his 90th birthday at a concert in Hyde Park on Friday.
