Pinewood Shepperton reduces development plans

17-Sep-2008 • Bond News

Pinewood Shepperton is scaling back its ambitious development plans for the famous Pinewood studio site, first unveiled in November, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The studio facilities group's site on the outskirts of London, which includes the 007 stage, said Tuesday that the plans were reduced after the latest round of stakeholder consultation meetings.

Among the changes, the proposed number of residential developments on the site has been reduced to 1,500 from the original estimate of 2,225. The group also has added a wooded area.

A spokesperson said that the changes were made "after taking into account feedback from both the local community and the industry."

The redevelopment of the site still includes plans for zones that will re-create familiar locations from around the world including a Venetian canal, a Tudor village and street scenes from San Francisco, Paris and Prague, the studio operators said.

Pinewood Studios aims to expand on land adjacent to the existing Pinewood site under the banner "Project Pinewood" to create what it calls "the world's first purpose-built film and television 'live-work' community and ultimately a cluster for the wider creative industries."
