Sir Roger Moore - `They thought I might smash up the cars`

007 veteran. Pilot of the infamous underwater Lotus Esprit. Sir Roger Moore reveals his favourite James Bond car moments to Metro.

Favourite Bond car scene?
The Lotus Esprit diving into the ocean, because the audience thought we were goners. But it converted into the wonderful underwater car, Wet Nellie, and became one of the most famous sequences in any of my Bond films. It was all trickery and magic, of course.

Favourite Bond car?
The 2CV in For Your Eyes Only, because it seemed like such an unlikely Bond car, and we had great fun doing the stunts with it.

How much driving did you do?
Not a great deal, as the insurance companies insisted on having stunt drivers as they couldn’t afford for me to get injured — or more close to the truth, they thought I might smash up the cars! I did a little driving where Bond had to glide into a frame, but otherwise it was on low loaders or stunt drivers.

What do you drive?
A Mercedes, a Volvo 4x4 for the snow and a mark 1 Golf Cabriolet for hopping around Monte Carlo.
