TND`s Roger Spottiswoode bags a big directors job, is his post-Bond career back on track?

23-Jun-2003 • Actor News

AICN has reported that yet another Tom Ripley film is in the works in the UK, making this the fifth time the character has been brought to the big screen.

What is even more surprising is that Roger Spottiswoode, whose career took a bit of a nose dive after "Tomorrow Never Dies", is set the direct the project.

Arnie vehicle "The 6th Day" in 2000 has been his only major film since, and that deal was probably done before the criticism weighed in for TND.

Based on Patricia Highsmith`s second novel in the series "Ripley Underground" which was penned back in 1970, this time its young actor Barry Pepper playing the role of the sociopath who this time around "attempts to make himself richer in the art world by concealing the death of an upcoming artist in order to ensure his paintings are sold on to galleries before the news becomes public. The artist`s corpse is housed in a freezer until the time is right for an announcement to be made and several characters are sworn to secrecy.

Naturally, the plan doesn`t go smoothly resulting in several double-crosses and murders". The film will be set in present day London and stars Clare Forlani, Ian Hart and Douglas Henshall. Filming starts this month.
