Daniel Craig puts his weight behind Harrogate charity auction
James Bond star Daniel Craig has thrown his backing behind a Harrogate charity auction for army officers serving abroad -
Ripton Today reports.
The A-list celebrity has donated signed Bond memorabilia which will go under the hammer at a Harrogate school, to raise money for servicemen and women injured in action.
Organisers are hoping the event, at St John Fisher School, will raise thousands for Help the Heroes, a charitable organisation set up to aid forgotten soldiers injured on active service.
Organiser Ruth Watson, 26, is a Harrogate woman who recently left the army after nine years to have a baby.
Now the welfare officer for St John Fisher Catholic School, Mrs Watson had served in the 5th Regiment, Royal Artillery for nine years, and completed a 13 month tour of duty in Iraq. The auction is her way of giving a little back to the men and women she served with.
Prizes:
Apprentice finalist Kristina Grimes will wield the hammer, and together with the backing of Harrogate-based indie-rock band D'Nile and the Mayor of the Borough of Harrogate, Coun John Fox, enthusiasm for the project has secured a number of prizes from local businesses.
Items up for grabs so far include a VIP race day at York Races as well as a three course meal and champagne from Skybet, and a part from a Formula 1 Williams racing car signed by F1 drivers Nico Roseberg and Kazuki Nakajima.
Also offered are concert tickets including Lemar at Sheffield City Hall, a £200 Azendi jewellery voucher, a print from Yorkshire artist Neil Simone and a stay in Harrogate's White Hart Hotel.
Help the Heroes Auction Night is to be held at St John Fisher Catholic School from 7.30pm on Saturday, February 7.
Tickets cost £5, and are available from the school by calling 01423 818 447.
