ITV `spooked` in the ratings war - Goldfinger fails to win largest audience share in the UK

16-Jul-2003 • Bond News

ITV1`s rearrangement of the classic Bond films for their new 007 season seems to have failed to win over their target TV audience.

The UK channel decided to show "Goldfinger" ahead of "From Russia With Love" this week in an attempt to win back the ratings war from BBC1. Bond movies on ITV have never failed to win the largest TV audience share in recent years - until this month.

The second series of hit spy drama "Spooks" on BBC1 fought off the threat of "Goldfinger" on ITV1, scooping 6 million viewers. Bond only managed 5 million, or "one in four TV viewers", even though the film started 30 minutes beforehand. Breaking for the ITV news at 10pm also dented the ratings.

ITV1 will be wheeling out Bond again next Monday against "Spooks" on BBC1 with "From Russia With Love".
