Craig and Jackman confront cell phone nuisance

29-Sep-2009 • Actor News

Hugh Jackman is giving improvisation a new twist these days. During a preview performance of the new Broadway production “A Steady Rain,” in which he stars with Daniel Craig, Mr. Jackman confronted an audience member with a cellphone, The Associated Press reported. The moment was captured on an amateur videotape and posted on the TMZ.com Web site.

The clip shows Mr. Jackman stepping away from an intense moment in his portrayal of a Chicago police officer to say ‘You want to get that?” to the offending cellphone user, a remark met with cheers from the audience. When the phone continues to ring, Mr. Jackman says, “Come on, just turn it off.” Mr. Jackman then paces the stage of the Gerald Schoenfeld Theater before the ringing stops and the show is resumed. Producers of the show could not be reached Monday for comment.

It wasn’t the first cellphone interruption of the show, or the first time that line was used. At an earlier preview, on Sept. 19, the ring came during one of Mr. Craig’s monologues. He too stopped, looked out into the audience, and said: “You want to get that?”
