Pierce Brosnan critical of Arnold Schwarzenegger`s campaign - `getting close to the flame`

04-Oct-2003 • Actor News

Actor Pierce Brosnan and his wife, Keely Shaye Brosnan, appeared with California Governor Davis to show what they said was strong support for his record on the environment.

Governor Davis is facing the prospect of a recall vote that could see him stripped of office - and over a hundred candidates battling for the position.

Among the candidates is front-runner Arnold Schwarzenegger who has had a turbulent couple of weeks of slurs against his campaign. He made a public apology in response to a report in Thursday`s Los Angeles Times that he had groped and humiliated six women in instances between 1975 and 2000.

Calling the Times article "scary, very scary," Pierce Brosnan said Schwarzenegger, who he said is a friend, is "getting close to the flame here."

The James Bond film star was asked about the description by Schwarzenegger of racy behavior on movie sets. "It certainly doesn`t happen on the sets that I`ve worked on," Brosnan said.

"Arnold`s obviously done something that had annoyed a lot of people, and now he`s going to have to face the consequences over this. It`s his conscience at stake here, and ultimately the state of this election."
