Dame Judi Dench joins cast of historical zombie movie

21-May-2011 • Actor News

They're two of the finest British actors of all time and no strangers to a period costume drama so it's no surprise to hear that Dame Judi Dench and Sir Ian Mckellen are heading back to the 18th Century for a new big screen outing. What is a surprise though is that the film features zombies -- reports Moviefone.

The Oscar and Bafta-winning stars are set to star in The Curse of the Buxom Strumpet, a satircal take on the undead which focuses on a zombie outbreak in a British seaside town in the 1700s.

The film - which will also star X-Files star Gillian Anderson and Mark Williams (Arthur Weasley in the Harry Potter films) - is an extended version of short comedy film E'gad Zombies which also starred McKellen. Having not seen that we can only imagine it being a cross between The Walking Dead and Brideshead Revisited. We hope so anyway.

Strangely, this isn't the only undead period drama in production as Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is set for a 2013 release.

Buxom Strumpet will begin shooting in Scotland later this year. As for it's stars, McKellan is currently working on The Hobbit, while Dench has just finished two films - My Week With Marilyn and J. Edgar - and she'll soon start work on Bond 23.
