No Time To Die reported to be delayed again to November 2021

11-Jan-2021 • No Time To Die

With the inevitability of a much unloved season... Reports are emerging that the 25th James Bond film will be delayed yet again - to November 2021.

Given the state of the world, the April 2nd release was looking unrealistic the moment it was announced, and according to a Dutch cinema owner, they have already been told the film is moving to November.

The news would have come from Universal, who are distributing 'No Time To Die' outside of North America through their deal with MGM. There has been a distinct lack of joined-up thinking between Universal and MGM, especially the last time around, when Universal was understood to be pushing for a delay but MGM went ahead and dropped a new trailer anyway, only to then delay the film a few days later. In conclusion, what Universal is telling cinemas in Europe may not be the official word from MGM in the US, however sensible and obvious it is.

One complication about the November 2021 date is the potential competition with 'Mission: Impossible 7', which is still shooting but trying to stay on track for November 19th. Most industry watchers doubted MGM would put Bond up against Hunt in the first major box-office battle since the pandemic kicked off.

Usually, a delay announcement would be expected by the end of January in order for the studio to avoid unnecessary marketing spend for a to-be-aborted April 2nd release, but MGM left it a lot later than that last go around.

MGM and Universal declined to comment to Variety.
