British actor Geoffrey Bayldon has died age 93. Like many of his era, Bayldon started acting on the stage after studying at the Old Vic Theatre School.
He appeared as part of seasons at Shakespeare Memorial Theatre and the Birmingham Repertory Theatre before appearing on the West End in The Happy Time in 1952.
The same year Bayldon made his earliest screen appearances and by the mid-'50s he was appearing in recurring roles on British TV, including The Adventures of Robin Hood and Sword of Freedom.
In the 1960s he appeared opposite Sir Roger Moore in The Saint before making a mark on the Bond world, appearing as 'Q' in Casino Royale (1967), the troubled spy-spoof.
Bayldon's other credits include To Sir, with Love (1967) and The Pink Panther Strikes Again (1976).
He purportedly turned down the role of Dr. Who on multiple occasions.
Bayldon made his name as Catweazle in the eponymously-titled series about a Norman magician.
He was at work on screen until 2010, appearing in Casualty and New Tricks.
Geoffrey Bayldon passed away on 10 May 2017.
