Tabloid publishes MGM's 'next Bond' shortlist

01-Sep-2016 • Actor News

In the third tabloid story this week claiming to have an exclusive insight on who is being considered to take over from Daniel Craig if he elects not to come back for a fifth film as 007, The Sun reports that they have the casting shortlist.

In a farcical piece, The Sun names Idris Elba, 44 next week, as "making the cut" on MGM's shortlist of potential successors. What the tabloid hacks fail to take into account is that any actor taking over the role will need to be able to make films for at least 10 years, not just next year. Regardless of the 'Black Bond' debate, Elba is simply too old, and the actor has said this himself.

The paper also claims that Michael Fassbender, 39, is under consideration by MGM. "Also in the running are Fast and Furious star Luke Evans, 37, Sons of Anarchy’s Charlie Hunnam, 36, Poldark’s Aidan Turner, 33, and Tom Hiddleston, 35."

The Sun concludes: "Barbara Broccoli is also meeting actors, including Happy Valley star James Norton, 31, and Billy Elliot actor Jamie Bell, 30, who are not on MGM’s list."

Has your favourite actor not been mentioned? Why not contact The Sun and pitch your idea as an inside source. They'll print anything these days.
