After assassinating her husband in Mexico City, Bond rendezvous with the fragile and stone-cold Lucia Sciarra in Rome. 007 saves the widow from an untimely death and, after roughly persuading her to cooperate, Bond helps Ms Sciarra to escape the clutches of SPECTRE with the aid of his CIA colleague Felix Leiter. The bold Bellucci proved a strong-willed ally for a twenty-first-century incarnation of Fleming's spy. Shunning the label 'Bond girl' Bellucci insisted that under the watchful guise of Sam Mendes and Barbara Broccoli the franchise was pushing in new and progressive directions. Bellucci – the 'Bond woman' – is also the eldest female companion to grace the screen.
