Daniel Craig says `certainly not four more` Bond films, contradicts MGM signing news
In yet another
interview on his PR tour for The Golden Compass, Daniel Craig quietly dropped a bombshell amongst a gaggle of other questions.
Q: You've been signed for four more Bond films?
Daniel Craig: That's what you said... I never said that. [laughter]
Q: You said that you thought about the first one eighteen months ago, before you finally said âI'm making this filmâ, so I thought this was quite a commitment to make?
Daniel Craig: Well, that's what's been said, it's not that it's not true, because I haven't signed up. What I've done is I've signed up on the next movie [Bond 22], after that we'll see. That's the way I'm doing it, and certainly it's not four more - that's the truth. It's certainly not four more.
This contradicts a
statement made by MGM chairman and CEO Harry Sloan who told the Forbes MEET II conference that Craig had signed up for four Bond outings post-Casino Royale. If that contract was completed, Craig would play Bond in a total of five films, up to and including Bond 25. His second outing, the as-yet untitled "Bond 22", is scheduled for release on 7th November 2008.
Speculation has suggested the contract has options for three films after Bond 22, rather than being a lock-in.
