Mission

Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.

Locations

Langvann, Norway; Matera, Italy; London, UK; Kingston, Jamaica; Havana, Cuba; Faroe Islands.

Pre-Titles Sequence

No Time To Die's 23 minute pre-titles sequence is the longest in the film series to date. It also has the distinction of playing out over two time periods. We begin in remote Norway where young Madeleine Swann has to defend herself from a home invasion. The sequences flashes forward to a time shortly after the 'SPECTRE' mission, where James and Madeleine are relaxing in Matera, Italy. Their peace is disrupted by a bomb at the grave of Vesper Lynd, and Primo – an agent of SPECTRE – targets Bond. A chase ensues during which Bond comes to suspect Swann of betraying him to the villainous organisation. Bond escapes the goons and puts Madeleine on a train, vowing they will never see each other again.

Title

The title was origintally planned as 'A Reason To Die', alluding to Bond's motivations, but was changed at the behest of the studio.

Cut Scenes & Alternate Versions

The ending had originally featured Honey being attacked by land crabs when Bond rescues her. The crabs moved too slowly to be really menacing and the ending was reshot without the crabs. Still photographs of the earlier ending can be seen on the special edition DVD.

Sean Connery as James Bond

During the Dent execution, most TV versions omit Bond's second gunshot into Dent's back.

Some TV versions shorten the opening scenes to speed up Bond's introduction. In particular a scene featuring a fellow agent arriving at the casino in search of Bond is cut, and the card game with Sylvia Trench begins just prior to the famous "Bond, James Bond" introduction, omitting the lengthy lead-up in the original.

Some foreign prints omit the scene entirely. Alternate versions of some scenes were filmed for European markets, including a somewhat more revealing scene involving the character Miss Taro.

The only Bond film to not include some variation of "James Bond will return" in the closing credits – succeeded by 'From Russia With Love'.
